Former Presidential Aspirant Umaru Shinkafi Dies In UK. Abuja
- Former presidential aspirant Umaru Shinkafi is dead. He died on Wednesday in a hospital in London after a prolonged illness.
He contested for the Presidency in 1992 under the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC). The NRC ticket was eventually won by the unknown Kano businessman, Bashir Tofa He was also the vice-presidential candidate of Olu Falae in the APP/AD alliance in 1999.
Shinkafi was head of the secret police, the Nigeria Security Organisation (NSO), which has been re-branded Department of State Services (DSS), from 1979 to 1983.
Shinkafi’s body will be flown back to Nigeria on Friday for burial at Abubakar III burial ground in Sokoto.

He is survived by three wives, and five children. One of his daughters is Zainab, wife of Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State Another daughter of late Shinkafi is Hadiza, the wife of Zamfara governor, AbdulAzeez Yari.
