Presidency Reacts on Massacred 81 in Benue By Herdsmen,
Questions Accuracy
of Death Toll.
 The presidency says it is checking the accuracy of reports
 claiming that 81 people were killed by herdsmen in
Benue state.

According to the traditional ruler of Logo council area
in Benue state, Chief Jimmy Meeme, who spoke with Channels
Television, over the invasion of rural communities in the state by
rampaging herdsmen, said 70 persons were killed in six out of the 10
 council wards in his domain, and blamed the sustained attacks on his
people by the herdsmen.

 According to residents, the latest killings increased the number of deaths
from herdsmen attack to 81 in the last two weeks. As the news of the resurgence
of herdsmen attacks continue to make rounds online and social media, the

'Will the silence on the presidency continue?'. The presidency, through the
 Twitter page of its digital communications office - @DigicommsNG, has reacted
 to the viral reports saying it is checking the accuracy of reports claiming that 81
 people were killed by herdsmen in Benue state.

The digital communications arm of the presidency also said the Nigerian police
is currently investigating the reports and would release a statement shortly,
adding that some of the pictures in circulation were from the genocide in Congo,
back in 2014.
