The Appeal Court constituted to resolve all appeals in the Ondo State People’s
Democratic, PDP, governorship ruled that Mr Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, is the authentic
candidate of the party in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo state.
The Appeal Court said principle of natural justice demands that all sides are given fair
hearing and that Abang had no jurisdiction to order INEC to publish Jimoh’s name
as Ondo PDP candidate.
Justice Ibrahim Salauwa-led three-member panel, after counsel to parties had argued
their applications, set aside Abang’s ruling and subsequently declared Jegede the valid
candidate of the PDP.
It would be recalled that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court on October 14
ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to recognize Barrister
Jimoh Ibrahim, as the flag-bearer of the PDP, for the November 26
governorship election State.
The judgement also directed INEC to only deal with the Sherrif-led faction instead of the
Markafi-led group.
